But as I’ve learned through my years as a cataract surgeon, many patients feel lost when it comes to these decisions.

Over and over, I’ve met patients who were overwhelmed by the process. They couldn’t find clear information about cataract surgery online. Some patients came to me after visiting another clinic, frustrated because no one had taken the time to explain their options for surgery. In many clinics around the country, it’s not even the doctor who walks you through your surgery options - it’s often someone without a medical background, more focused on sales than patient education.

This is a growing problem. With more people needing cataract surgery than ever and fewer surgeons available each year, the time spent on patient education is shrinking. Studies show that the average doctor already only spends a few minutes talking with patients, leaving little room for a full discussion of options. Yet, making the right choices is key to getting the best outcome from cataract surgery.

That’s why I created Cataract Companion. I wanted to offer a solution - a place where you can find all the information you need to feel confident about your cataract surgery.

Cataract Companion is different from other resources out there because it has no hidden agenda. It’s not tied to any lens company trying to promote their products or to any clinics who are naturally biased to push more expensive upgrades. My only goal with Cataract Companion is to help you understand your options and make the best decisions for your vision goals.
